Private Library Services:
On-Site Library Maintenance
Perhaps the most important measure of a
properly maintained library is the extent to which its volumes
can be handled by the reader with confidence.
An on-site visit to your library will
allow us to appraise the condition of your books, make certain
immediate initial
repairs, and develop an overall plan for the restoration
and long-term protection of your collection. The initial
maintenance visit will include minor repairs such as the
reattachment of loose spine labels, plates and pages, and
the recoloring of scuffed and worn edges. Where appropriate,
degraded leather may be treated with a leather consolidation
agent.
If you personally maintain your library,
please remember that oiling certain leathers such as pigskin
and sheepskin,
or extremely dry and cracked leather is not recommended.
Doing so may result in discoloration and a weakening of
the leather.
